In my rush to get laundry done before school, I grabbed all my beddings (sheet, blanket, and pillow covers) and through them into the washing machine. The dire need to clean all these things (mostly my sheet) was the incredibly vast amounts of cat hair on them! Damn cat. She has to be so cute; so cute that I can't say no when she wants to curl up on or near me and block my fresh air accessibility. She cries if I don't allow her to sleep with me. Even though there are so many other places she could sleep in our house, she has to choose my bed, and on top of me. I knew it was time to rewash everything, when my significant other just came near my bed and commented: "My eye is being weird". In other words the itching had started, and the damn cat had ruined a perfectly nice moment. Back to the story of my sheets. So in my hurry, I yelled at my brother to dry them for me while I was in school. Done and done. At school I receive a surprising call from home. Apparently, my brain is slowly deteriorating, and I threw my TV remote control into the washing machine as well. Genius move on my part.

R.I.P old friend, for we have been through so much together; so much that most of your numbers have faded. I shall forever miss our nights of endless channel flipping until Friends was found.
I haven't quite decided if I will replace it, but for now, standing beside the TV for long periods of time will have to do.

Beauty Products Review: wet n wild Blush

wet n wild Blush in Berry Shimmer

One of the most surprising purchases I have recently made, this blush has to be one of the best ones I have ever bought. They sell wet & wild products at Walmart, for such a cheap price. I bought this with such low hopes, but damn was it worth it! It is such a nice pink colour, leaning more to the red shade. It looks like its almost too red, but I'm not that fair so it works well on darker skin colours. And it has the slightest bits of shimmer- so pretty! The best thing about it, is that a little goes a LONG way. One light swipe with a brush and your good to go for like days. Honestly, this will probably last forever since you don't need a lot of product for it to show. A very highly pigmented product, well worth the price. Also, it comes with a brush which is handy.

Definitely recommend this!

Love & Relationships

I know this may sound corny and super cliche, but I honestly agree that absence makes the heart grow fonder. When you spend everyday with that special person, you start to feel too comfortable, and it's almost as if that "spark" seems to disappear. But as soon as you leave for a couple days, you realize how the little things are what you miss the most- the things you might normally take for granted. When you are away from each other for a while, you start missing the touches, the hugs, the smiles, and the laughs, since all of a sudden they are no longer within reach. You realize you shouldn't take your time spent together for granted, because who knows when a few days (or weeks, months or even years) without your special someone may creep up on you again. So next time, when you're angry or upset with that person, think about how much you would be missing them if they weren't around, and shower them with hugs, and kisses while they're still in your presence!

Book you have to read! "Don't Sleep, There Are Snakes" - Dan Everett

Wow, I'm reading this for two of my classes, and all I can say is wow. It honestly opens up your mind so much!

 

A linguist named Dan Everett works as a missionary, and as an assignment is sent into the Amazonian jungle in Northern Brazil. The reason for such a trip is to convince the tribal people of this region to become Christians. Well is he up for a treat. This book is factually based on his trip to Brazil, where he is trying to teach the lessons of God and Jesus to a tribe called the Pirahã (pronounced pee-da-HAN). They are an indigenous people who do not accept anything from the outside world (whether it be culture, language, religion, etc.). They believe any outside culture to be inferior to their own. They live in a world without hell or heaven, and live everyday as it comes with a smile on their face. They don't plan, they don't have memories, or stories from the past. They don't have art, drawing, or numbers. They don't even say "Hello, how are you?" There is no such thing as goodnight, or bye, rather: "I am going," or "Don't sleep there are snakes," since each day is a battle against the wildlife of the jungle.

No one before could penetrate deep into this heritage since their language is so unique and unlike any others found throughout the world. Instead of following a "universal grammar" they speak on their own terms. They do not combine two separate ideas into one sentence. They don't have explanatory words such as a "red" car. They don't even count or have a series of numbers like everywhere else. Instead, they would say "a higher amount" of items, rather that "one" or "two" more. Their entire language is based on less than 10 letters and vowels, and have a gazillion accents and tones which differentiate their words.

I am absolutely fascinated by this story, and to be honest I haven't even finished the first chapter yet, but my exciting is building and I had to recommend EVERYONE to read it!

Beauty Products Review: Sally Hansen Blush & Pressed Powder

These products are actually from the line "Inspired by Carmindy" who as you may or may not know, is the gorgeous makeup artist on "What Not To Wear".

Luckily, I picked up the perfect colours, considering there were no testers.

The Natural Powder Blush in Fawn is a pretty dark pink, almost red shade, with tiny silver shimmers in it. It gives a very natural shade to my cheeks, and at the same time highlights ever so slightly. It isn't very powdery, and has a luxurious softness to it. Use it on top of your cheek bones for a natural flush of colour.

The Luminous Matte Pressed Powder in Deep seems to match my skin almost perfectly. It also feels very soft and smooth and blends easily. It seems to be the perfect match for any foundation routine. After applying your foundation you can use a kabuki brush or any fluffy face brush to blend out this powder over your foundation. Using circular motions, apply the powder all over your face and neck, and you should end up with an almost photoshopped look on your skin. It allows your foundation to look less cakey and your overall application look more natural. Oh, and bonus: It comes with a mirror and a blending sponge underneath the product, perfect for on-the-go touch ups!

Definitely recommend both products!

So darn true. I could seriously be stuck in a small room all by myself, and would never run out of things to think about. Whether it regards why I am a certain way, why others are a certain way, why things happen the way/time that they do, why we are even on this earth, I would never run out of things to discuss with my mind. On any given day at any moment, my brain is flourishing with these types of thoughts, and I think to myself, "Wow, I would be stressing out the person who is reading my mind". It's crazy. But I never thought of myself as a philosopher... till now that is!

Blurbs & Rants

Can anyone tell me why, someone who has openly admitted to only having read ONE book in her entire life, gets a damn book writing contract? She probably can't even spell book properly. That pisses me off. I remember when I was 12 and we had our first old school laptop, and I actually full-out started righting my very first fiction novel. (I would probably be finished it by now, and it would have been a New York Times' Best Seller OBVI- but that laptop got messed up, and everything was erased without notice. DAMN!) Anywho... Why on earth does Nicole Polizzi better known as Snooki get a writing contract. Someone please tell me why. So many people out there actually have a voice that should be heard, so many people out there probably have written so many stories, and novels, and are just waiting for their big break to get discovered. Well here's some advice: Be skanky, drink a lot, have no morals, and BAM! Writing contract in your hands! If only I had known this sooner....

University Adventures (Week 1)

Although I do have some experiences in post-secondary institutions, I must admit: University is nothing like College. College felt more like a rather long extension of High School. University feels more like... learning in "real adult life" (if that makes sense). Even though, I have had many "first days" of school, I can safely admit how nervous/excited I was for the first day of University. I had never seen my campus before (which may have been a major cause of the butterflies in my stomach), and had no friends or acquaintances who were accompanying me on this "journey" to University life. Also, I had missed out on Orientation Week- otherwise known as Frosh Week!

So, with the help of my handy dandy map, which was mailed during registration, I was on my way to school for my first day. I gave myself an adequate amount of time for the drive to and discovery of my new "home" for the next 4 years. I don't live on residence but I can bet I'll be spending a heck of a lot of time on and around campus. Luckily my map was extremely useful. I probably looked like a tourist with my face buried into it, wondering around, but nonetheless, it was definitely a necessity.

The first thing I did was look for the buildings of my first two classes. Easy enough: they were both next to each other, give or take a restaurant/tiny shop in between. Next step: Explore. I found a building which looked like a mall (Score!), walked in, and realized how deserted it was. All it had was a William's Cafe, some odd looking dollar store, and another small arts/crafts/souvenir shop. What a waste of space, and excitement. Moving along, I noticed the library across the street. Extremely good to know the location of this building. I went up, down, up again, and up even more, and finally got myself a new library card. Then off to class I went. 

How weird are University desks? A tiny chair, with a semi-attached mini table top type thing. (Mind you the table barely fits a laptop). Also, they are all attached so closely, just like theatre seats, that you have to stick your butt in people's faces to get through the rows. Each class I went to after that had even weirder desks. Some were actually almost like mini couches though, so that was a plus. I have no clue why, but that was the most mesmerizing moment of my first Univeristy experience!

Nothing else really stands out about the first week, but I did make friends with the owners of a local shawarma shop (naturally haha). I also found a couple lounges, and a very prehistoric computer lab (oh the irony) on campus. I have yet to find a general cafeteria for our school, and I have located the gym, but have not yet entered it! The courses themselves are awesome. Absolutely love them. However, holy crap it's a lot of work. Lots and lots and lots of reading, constant reading, I should say. Lots of learning, lots of essays, lots of fun I hope! Oh and oddly enough, I found the only two people in all of my school that I actually knew from High School and College, on the last day of class of the first week, during the same 10 minutes. Weird! Anywho, wish me luck.

Word of the Day- Sept 20: ethnocentrism

ethnocentrism (noun): the emotional attitude that one's own ethnic group, nation, or culture is superior

This was read or heard more than once within the past couple days, mostly relating to Britain. Interesting... I think it relates to Americans for sure, as well as Assyrians (thanks to past experiences). Then again, I think most people are slightly ethnocentric. It's just part of human nature to be proud of your country and your roots. Not a bad thing at all, until it involves hatred of other nationalities which obviously may lead to violence.

Love & Relationships

I would assume everyone has at least once heard of the term "my blood boiled". I never really took this phrase into context, until recently. You feel so upset and angry, so emotional, as if everything is bubbling up inside you, under your skin. Your face begins to feel red, you can't see, think or speak properly. If you had the opportunity you would punch something (or someone- but let's not resort to violence people!) just to get some type of release. I think everyone has experienced this type of "blood boiling" at one point or another,  and I think I can safely say this emotion can be the directly linked to an argument with a loved one. Feel free to vent here about any spats, any arguments, any full on blowup you may have experienced which lead to your blood "boiling" from deep within. But rememeber, your emotions may come and go, but always remember how much you actually love your loved ones, no matter how angry they make you feel once in a while. Always remember to forgive! I think the act of forgiving can be a virtue, and may result in less stress in the long run.

Clothes & Fashion - Laundry Tip

You're at the mall, spending hours trying on pair after pair of jeans. It's honestly one of the hardeset things to do (in my opinion it should be considered a sport) and can sometimes be so stressful. But, luckily you find the perfect pair and it fits like a glove! Step one: Complete. Now, let's focus on keeping the jeans in that beautiful shape. Most people would wash their purchases right away. Don't do this! The first thing you want to do is wear the jeans for a few hours up to a full day. Even if it is just around your house, make sure you wear the jeans right away before their initial wash. This will ensure the material hugs your shape and adjusts to your specific curves (basically loosening them up and showing them how you need to wear them).  Now, after the few hours (or day) you can wash your jeans as indicated on the labels. After you wash and dry your jeans, they will have memorized your intial shape and hopefully will not have shrunk too much. Hope this helps!

Beauty Tips: Skin care

One day in college, I noticed my friend's skin. I noticed how wonderfully smooth (baby-butt smooth, that is) her face was. Not a single blemish, no discolouration, and absolutely smooth all over. I had to ask how that was physically possible. She had a simple answer: Baby Lotion. She told me she had been using it since childhood, and had never used any other types of moisturizers. My gosh, I ran out and bought the Johnson's brand (pink bottle) and have never used another type of lotion, or moisturizer since. All I can say is I truly wish I had discovered this sooner. It has been my face's best friend ever since. I tend to have slightly dry skin, but it gets greasy pretty fast. Not sure if that would be considered combination skin? Either way, it works wonders. I used to break out quite often, but now all I see is a pimple or two on occassion. To top it all off, I also use the Baby Wash as a facewash.

Bonus: The baby lotion contains an ingredient called "dimethicone" which is found in most brands of face primer. I never use primer, I just use baby lotion. (A friend I will call... um... SKINQUEEN tipped me off on this!)

Bonus 2: The baby wash doubles as a makeup remover. Rather than using soap or any alcohol based removers, I just lather up the wash and rub my makeup off under water. It's so easy and... no tears! :)

Word of the Day - Sept 19: intertextual

Word of the Day will include any interesting word I heard or read during the day.
I will be using my handy dandy REAL dictionary called: "Webster's New World College Dictionary".


Sept. 19 - intertextual (adj.) - of or having to do with the links between one literary work and another
Example: In the Simpsons Episode 14 Season 9 called "Das Bus", the writers based this episode loosely on the novel "The Lord of the Flies." I actually remember reading this book in Grade 8. All I can remember is a whole bunch of kids get trapped on an island somehow, as well as the significant conch shell.

I heard this word in class today, however, I heard it pronounced inner-textual. Well, two birds one stone: I learned how to actually spell it, and what on earth it means!
